1. Since antiquity, makeup has been the most popular way to improve the apperance. I suppose women like wearing makeup, because it makes them feel more self-confident. It is also a way to show your individual style, stand out of the crowd and basically look better.
2. Nowdays, people (both men and women) wear different kinds of makeup. Some women prefer gentle makeup, which make them use only lipstick and mascara. Others wear strong makeup, using eye-shadows, powder, eye-liner etc.
Makeup may also be an essencial part of a costume; thanks to it you can dress as a choosen character.
