The Skelling Islands consist of two islands, Skelling Michael and Little Skelling.8.1..... They are sometimes called the "Irish Machu Picchu". The islands are not tourist friendly because they are rocky and very steep. 8.2......But the Skellings could be successfully named the most impressive attraction of Ireland because of their spectacular scenery, amazing wildlife and a unique monastery which looks like a big beehive. Skelling Michael - the bigger of the two islands, has two peaks. 8.3.... At the height of 160 metres there is a sixth-century Christian monastery. It was selected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site because of its high cultural and historical significance. As a unique landmark, it is also legally protected by international treaties. Little Skelling is a nature reserve and an area closed to the public for most of the year because of the amazing variety of birdlife on the island. It is home to puffins, gannets. arctic terns and fulmars. The gannet is the largest of all the seabirds that live here 8.4....... It is estimated that there are nearly 70,000 of these birds on Little Skelling, which second largest colony of them in the world.
